Atitudes Corretivas e Crenças de psicoterapeutas sobre a diversidade sexual e de gênero

Brazilian psychologists are prohibited from acting in a way that modifies the sexual orientation or gender identity of their clients. However, such practices still exist, either through reparative therapies or corrective attitudes diluted in clinical practice. This study sought to evaluate the corrective attitudes and beliefs of clinical psychologists regarding sexual orientation and gender identity through an online questionnaire. The data indicated that 22.1% and 31.4% would be willing to modify the sexual orientation and gender identity, respectively, of their clients if requested. Corrective attitudes were not related to the respondents' clinical approach. The professionals' beliefs appeared as predictors in the logistic regressions of corrective attitudes and highlighted the presence of prejudice against bisexual people and pathologizing etiological beliefs. It is suggested, therefore, that affirmative action is fundamental for the safety of LGBTQ+ people in psychotherapeutic care.

Pre-Print, Accepted Manuscript, and Final Published Version Archiving, Sharing and Re-Use Policy
The authors’ contribution to RBTCC has three versions, which are defined below and can be archived, shared, and re-used under the following conditions:
1. A pre-print (or original submission) is the author’s version of the article before peer-review has taken place. Prior to acceptance for publication, author(s) retain the right to make a Pre-Print of their article available: on their own personal, self-maintained website; or on a legally compliant pre-print server (e.g., PsyArXiv, arXiv). Once the article has been published, the author(s) should update their acknowledgement and provide a link to the definitive version on RBTCC’s website, adding a text such as: “This is a pre-print of an article published in the Brazilian Journal of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy.
